Key Findings
Our results show that algae blooms flourish when there is a specific range of fertiliser concentration. Even though this does not align with part of our hypothesis of greater concentrations of fertiliser resulting in larger blooms, this still shows how devastating algae blooms are at a large scale for water bodies as our samples were smothered in algae after 1 week and 2 days of testing. When there is algae bloom, the algae will cause a decrease in oxygen and hence kill all fishes, decreasing the amount of fishes.
Explanation of Key Findings
When there is a runoff of fertiliser into water bodies, this would result in large algae blooms. The algae would deplete the oxygen from the water body and result in the death of aquatic life. Subsequently, the algae would die off in large numbers, further polluting the water body. Therefore, our experiment shows that fertiliser may ruin eco-systems if used irresponsibly.
Evaluation of Hypothesis
Even though this does not align with part of our hypothesis of greater concentrations of fertiliser resulting in larger blooms, this still shows how devastating algae blooms are at a large scale for water bodies as our samples were smothered in algae after 8 days of testing. When there is algae bloom, the algae will cause a decrease in oxygen and hence killing aquatic life
